What is Medfinds?
Medfinds is a brand-new community for anyone interested in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).  On this site you'll find health information resources, as well as a growing directory of CAM schools and health care providers.

The proportion of the public using some type of CAM therapy has grown to almost ¾ of the United States in recent years.  This has made the need for reliable information about CAM therapies imperative.  Medfinds aims to fulfill this need by providing current and relevant content, free to the public.

What is complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)?
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), a center within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), defines complementary and alternative medicine as "a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine."

Complementary medicine is used together with conventional medicine. An example of a complementary therapy is using aromatherapy to help lessen a patient's discomfort following surgery.

Alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine. An example of an alternative therapy is using a special diet to treat cancer instead of undergoing surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy that has been recommended by a conventional doctor.

How should I choose the best health care provider?
Choosing a health care provider is a challenging and personal task.  Only you, or your designated care representative, can choose the best health care provider.  Medfinds makes no attempt to verify or rank the services or abilities of the providers listed on this site.

Are all of the health care providers on Medfinds state-licensed?
Not every health care provider on the Medfinds site is licensed to practice by his or her state government.  Many of the provider types represented on the site do not operate under a license in any state; similarly, licensure laws for a given practice type may vary from state-to-state.  It is your responsibility as a patient and consumer to verify the credentials and license of any health care provider you visit, including those listed on the Medfinds site.

Medfinds does NOT attempt to verify the credentials or license of any member providers on the site, due to the immense liability involved.  If you have any doubts as to the legality of services being rendered by a health care provider, contact your local health authorities immediately.

Are all of the schools on Medfinds accredited?
Not every school on the Medfinds site is accredited by a private, nonprofit organization regulated by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.   In the United States, unlike other countries, schools and hospitals are not accredited by the federal government.  Unaccredited institutions may provide legitimate instruction and operate within the boundaries of the law; however, many of these organizations are diploma mills, operating to scam consumers in exchange for worthless degrees.

Medfinds does NOT attempt to verify the accreditation of any member schools on the site.  As a student and consumer, it is your responsibility to obtain this information.  If you have any doubts as to the legality of services being rendered by a school or educational program, contact the U.S. Department of Education or your regional accreditation office.

Why did my search return no listings?
Many times a specific search will return no listings, with a message "Your search returned no results."  This may be because you have placed too many limits on the search (i.e. the search has been narrowed too far).  First try broadening the limits of your search, for instance searching by state instead of zip code.  If this doesn't work, it is possible that our database contains no matches for the information submitted in your search.
